Ongoing Volunteer Needs:

Mobile Meals Delivery Drivers:  our Mobile Meals Program (click here to learn more about Mobile Meals) is growing fast and we need more volunteer drivers to make sure that we can continue to serve all of the homebound seniors who need our service.  Deliveries are made Monday through Friday over the lunch hours.  A route will take around 1 to 1½ hours to complete.  Schedules are flexible; drive as often as you like (one or two times per month, once a week or even more often if you wish).   Volunteers who may drive on behalf of the Agency (either personal vehicles or Agency vehicles) will need to provide proof of valid driver’s license and insurance.

Mobile Meals Kitchen Assistants:  serving more Mobile Meals clients means more hands are needed in the kitchen, too.  Kitchen Assistants help pack the meals for delivery and are needed Monday through Friday from about 9:30 to 11:00 am .  Once again, set your schedule, work as often as you like. Not sure? Come and observe the process…no obligation.

Grocery Delivery Service: This program allows for seniors to call in grocery orders on a weekly basis, which orders are filled by a local grocer, then picked up by volunteer drivers and delivered to the seniors’ homes with the volunteer returning the client’s payment to the store.  We are looking for a few volunteer drivers and you may specify the frequency of your involvement.

County Fair Booth: Volunteers are needed to host the Senior Center ’s booth at the Hancock County Fair. Time slots for manning the booth are in two hour shifts.  Those signing up should have a general knowledge of the activities and services provided by the Agency.  A free admission pass will be provided to those who volunteer.

Volunteer Guardianship Program: This program seeks individuals who will be trained to serve as volunteer guardians for seniors in our community who have no one else available to help them with basic life decisions including decisions involving medical care and living arrangements.

Special Events:  assist with planning, set-up, clean-up, manning a booth at a special event, etc.  Events include dinners, programs, picnics, dances, the county fair and more.

Awareness Campaign:  utilize your public speaking, networking and public relations skills to help us spread the word about the programs and services offered by the Hancock County Agency on Aging.

Fundraising and Grant Writing:  seniors are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population, which means that the need for funding for services will continue to grow.  If you have a desire to assist seniors and skills in grant research/writing or a passion for planning fundraising projects or developing donor relationships, WE NEED YOU!

Clerical Tasks:  mailings, assembling literature packets, receptionist, answering telephones, computer work for the Agency or other community organizations.

Food Preparation and Service for Special Events:  food is often a central feature of our events.  If you enjoy cooking, baking or serving, let us know.

Crafts, Programs & Classes:  do you have a special skill or craft you would be willing to teach others?  Would you like to give a program on an interesting topic?

Music & Entertainment:  If you like to sing; play a kazoo, spoons or other musical instrument; or both, you might enjoy participating in our kitchen band called the Millstream Rhythm Band.  The group practices on the first and third Wednesdays at 1:30 PM.  A desire to have fun is mandatory!  Talent is appreciated but not required!

Gardening, Maintenance & Chore Services:  assist our senior clients with yardwork like gardening, raking, outside clean-up or painting or help keep the Senior Center in top shape.

Santas 4 Seniors:   This program annually provides holiday cheer to over 100 local seniors.
